Kids Company were awarded a grant by Bermondsey Square Community Fund to buy a basic PA system and studio equipment to be used by The Urban Academy students. The Urban Academy, based in Bermondsey, is a post-16 educational and life skills academy, specifically designed to meet the needs of young people who reject or have been rejected from other educational facilities due to their complex emotional or behavioural needs.
Due to the high quality of musical equipment, The Urban Academy was able to create a small recording studio. In the studio students are able to create fantastic musical content which counts towards their arts qualifications as well as enhances their musical creativity.
The studio equipment also motivates students to come in on time and value the work they do.
One of the first outcomes of the new studio were two seasonal CDs, Christmas and Valentine’s, which got amazing feedback.
Feedback from both The Urban Academy staff and most especially students was the equipment was very needed and much appreciated.
About Bermondsey Square Community Fund
The Bermondsey Square Trust collects money from the occupiers and owners of Bermondsey Square through the occupiers’ leases and grants awards for ‘The marketing animation and promotion of the Bermondsey Square Estate and making a positive contribution to the wider neighbourhood and community of Bermondsey.’
