The Bermondsey Square Community Fund is delighted to announce the Construction youth Trust has been awarded £2,260 for their Budding Builders Bermondsey project.
The Construction Youth Trust is a charity helping young people in England and Wales to build better futures by giving them access to training, education and employment opportunities in the construction industry. They deliver free courses that provide practical work experience as well as careers advice for young people whose journey to work may be challenging due to financial circumstances, lack of awareness of opportunities, low self-esteem, gender or ethnicity.
Budding Builders courses are free for people aged 14 to 30 who are not in education, employment or training. These are often young ex-offenders and groups that are under-represented in construction such as ethnic minorities and women.
The courses combine practical and theoretical skills to provide entry level construction training and skills to help their employability. In addition, students receive careers advice on opportunities that exist in construction.
Students can gain entry-level qualification in trades ranging from carpentry, tiling and plumbing to painting and decorating and health and safety.
How Will the Grant Be Used?
The Construction Youth Trust will use the grant to buy tools for construction courses in their Bermondsey Training Centre.
